NYU Arts and Entertainment Alumni Network: No Show Starts on Broadway

Whether you're an aspiring theatre maker, supporter, performer, or an ardent fan curious about how new musicals are born, this session will offer a candid look at the collaborative and exhilarating process behind creating the next generation of musical theatre—because no show starts on Broadway. We are thrilled to welcome award-winning director, choreographer, and writer Joe Barros, and Tony Award winning Broadway and West End producer Robin Gorman Newman (Buena Vista Social Club, Parade) for an inside look at the vibrant and creative ecosystem that transforms an idea into a fully realized musical. Drawing on decades of experience developing new work, they'll explore how original musicals are conceived, nurtured, and ultimately make their way to the stage. As the Artistic Director of New York Theatre Barn, Barros has spent nearly two decades leading one of the country's foremost nonprofit incubators for original, culture-shifting musicals, creating opportunities for artists across generations and identities to develop bold new work. Together, Barros and Gorman Newman will share insights into the creative partnerships, artistic risks, and developmental processes that shape today's musical theatre landscape.
